Gamu of ‘A Shoulder To Cry On’ Wins #OrangeTheWorld 2022 Campaign

This year, 2022 saw us launching our first #OrangeTheWorld Campaign, which aimed to identify local businesses that work towards helping women and children in Zimbabwe facing challenges.

This is in line with one of our central corporate values of Winning With People. A mantra created to help Admedia focus on creating services and projects that help elevate the livelihoods of people in various communities in which we operate in.

The #OrangeTheWorld Campaign is based on the UNESCO slogan that stands for a ‘brighter future, free of violence,’ and coincides with the annual 16 days of activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

Our winner for this year’s campaign is Gamu who runs a social-based organization called, ‘A Shoulder To Cry On.’ The project was started as a result of challenges she faced herself, “I am someone who experienced Gender-based violence, I suffered a lot emotionally and physically.” She then decided to comfort women like her who experience violence but still hold on.

She also runs her own business called Nyama Kwa Gamu, which she describes as a means to reduce dependency on men for survival.

Through this business, she also supplies chicken offals to women in her community at very low prices for them to have their own finances.

Gamu walked away with a $500 voucher which is meant to help boost her business and improve her organization’s online presence to help more women who might need a shoulder to cry on.
